# Agent Maturity Index > The Agent Maturity Index (AMI) is an AI agent maturity model and peer benchmark that measures how enterprises build, govern and scale AI agents. It scores an organization from level 1 (Experimenting) to level 5 (Agent-Native) on seven dimensions. It is a research program run by SynOS and is being built with a Founding Cohort of 30 enterprises. ## The five levels 1. Experimenting: teams try agents; nothing runs in production. 2. Piloting: a few agents serve real users, in limited scope. 3. Operationalizing: agents run in production on shared tooling, with clear owners. 4. Scaling: a platform lets many teams ship agents safely. 5. Agent-Native: agents are core to how the business runs and improves. Scoring is based on evidence of what runs in production today, not plans. When an answer falls between two levels, the lower level is scored. ## Scores - Agent Maturity Score: the average of a person's levels across all seven dimensions, from 1.0 to 5.0. Anyone can score their business on the home page. - Team alignment score: once three or more people from the same business have scored it, a 0 to 100 measure of how much they agree. 100 means everyone gave every dimension the same level. ## The seven dimensions - Knowledge & Context: can agents reach the company knowledge they need, with the same permissions a person would have? - Quality & Evaluation: can you prove an agent works before release, and that it still works a month later? - Governance & Control: can you list every agent, what it is allowed to do, and stop it in seconds? - Continuous Improvement: is an agent better six months after launch, and do its gains carry to other agents? - Sovereignty & Residency: do you control where your models run and where your data goes? - Value & Portfolio: can you show the board what each agent costs and what it returns? - People & Operating Model: who owns an agent once it is live, and is that working? All seven dimensions carry equal weight. ## Founding Cohort - Who: Chief AI Officers, Heads of AI and equivalent leaders at large enterprises. - Commitment: one 45-minute research interview. Free. - Timeline: interviews November to December 2026; private benchmarks January 2027. - Benefits: a private benchmark against the anonymized cohort, early access to the report, optional founding-member credit. - Not for: vendors, consultants or investors. - Confidentiality: answers are anonymized and reported only in aggregate; no attribution without written permission; interviews run by the SynOS core team; no demos, presentations or sales follow-up unless requested. ## Report The State of Enterprise Agent Adoption report is planned for Q1 2027, built on aggregate cohort data. ## Licence The Agent Maturity Index framework (levels, dimensions and questions) is licensed under CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/).
